When advertising your product through Meta social media targeting, you need to know that the important point is not only an attractive ad and customization, but also the process of paying for Facebook ads, which requires understanding and management.

In this article, we will look at the basic aspects of paying for Facebook ads, what is the billing threshold and billing itself, and what are the payment methods.

Ways to pay for Facebook ads

There are several ways to pay for Facebook and Instagram ads:

  • American Express, Discover, Mastercard, Visa, and JCB credit or debit cards.
  • PayPal.
  • Bank account (direct debit) in supported countries.
  • Local manual payment methods in supported countries and currencies.

Available options depend on the country and currency of your advertising account. In Ukraine, only methods of payment for advertising by bank card or via PayPal are available. Full information about the payment methods available for your country can be found in the «Help» section on the official Facebook website, or inside your ad account dashboard.

How and when your card is debited

The date of debiting depends on the selected payment method. When you create your first ad, add a payment method to your ad account, which will determine the payment settings.

There are two main options for paying for ads on Meta platforms:

  • Automatic billing — when costs reach a certain amount (payment threshold), money is automatically deducted from your account. The amount of the remaining unpaid costs is deducted monthly on the day of billing. This option is used for bank card and PayPal payments.
  • Prepayment — you replenish your account and the money is deducted as the ads are shown, but not more than once a day. This option is used with prepayment (e.g. PayTM or Boleto Bancário). In this case, there is no payment threshold.

You can find out how much you spend on advertising by viewing the projected daily spending limit in Meta Ads Manager. Go to the billing information section in Ads Manager and see all final charges, including which ads you paid for and what actions you took (for example, displaying an ad to increase awareness or increasing the number of clicks on the ad).

The final bill may be more than the budget for a particular ad. This is because the account is charged for all the ads you show from it. Facebook never exceeds the budget you set for each ad.

You can view the total number of clicks and impressions of your ads in Ads Manager. The exact number of clicks and impressions for which you have been charged will be indicated on your receipt. The number of clicks indicated on the receipt may differ from the data from Ads Manager.

Frequently asked questions:

1. What is billing

Facebook billing is the process of billing and paying for ad placements on the Meta platform. Facebook billing can also include setting budgets, keeping track of costs, and monitoring the effectiveness of ad campaigns.

2. What is a billing threshold

The billing threshold is the minimum amount you need to accumulate in your account before Facebook starts billing you for ads. When you create an ad campaign on Facebook, you can set a billing threshold that will indicate when payment is due. When the amount of ad spend reaches or exceeds the billing threshold, Facebook bills you for payment. This allows you to control and manage your ad spend.
